Don't worship the Buddha

The Buddha was not a god or a deity. He was just a normal person like you and like me. The reason for the statues of the Buddha is simply to be a *reminder* of what’s possible for all of us: if we train the mind, if we practice living ethically, and if we give generously, then we can cultivate a mind and heart that is free from mental anguish and turmoil. We can be free from dissatisfaction and discontent. This is not magic. It’s not faith based. It’s about understanding the way your mind functions. Notice what brings ease to your mind, and do more of that. Notice what brings sadness and fear, do less of that. Don’t get hung up on religion and worship. Remember that we all have the capacity for inner freedom.
